    Description

    NATIVE AMERICAN
NAVAJO FOLK ART CORN MAIDEN BY DENNIS ROSS
Award winning artist, Dennis Ross started carving in 1996.  Coming from a family of carvers, creating this beautiful corn girl came natural to him.  Dennis collects wood roots and delicately carves each piece with precision and detail.  Both the corn girl and the corn boy, help teach us that the Navajo people were created from corn and that corn remains an important aspect of Navajo life.  Signed

In recent years, wood figurines hand carved by self-taught Navajo artists have developed into Navajo Folk Art.  These carvings of traditional personal images and indigenous animals are characteristic of the cultural integrity on the Navajo people.  Strong cultural values provide for and sustain the artistic traditions of the Navajo.
