1971 Press Photo Gerda Ewert's Nixon peace doves from Germany denied U.S. entry
This is an original press photo. Gerda Ewert, of Bonn, Germany, tried in vain today to get permission for her four peace doves to stay in the United States but U.S. Agriculture Department officials said they must be returned or destroyed. Gerda planned to present the doves to President Nixon. They are descendants of the dove that alighted on his shoulder during his visit to Bonn two years ago. Because of an epidemic of Newcastle's Disease, poultry from 16 European countries are prohibited entry. Photo measures 10.5 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 08-10-1971.
    Part Number: now01359
