This is an original press photo. An archaeological expedition to Turkey directed by Prof. George M. A. Hanfmann of Harvard and Prof. Stephen W. Jacobs of Cornell has unearth a wall of the ancient city of Sardis and a stone with 18 lines of Lyndian writing which may help unravel more of the little understood writings. Discovery of the wall supports the observations of Herodotus, a Greek historian of the 5th century BC who is also known as the Father of History. Photo measures 10.5 x 6 inches. Photo is dated 12-30-1971.
